The talks between the two parties focused on "the state and prospects of relations between Algeria and the European Union, both in their bilateral aspect relating to the association agreement between the two parties, and in the multilateral framework including the countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean," the statement said.
At the bilateral level, Mr. Attaf stressed "the need to activate the main mechanism responsible for regulating the Algerian-European association, namely the Association Council, which remains the appropriate framework for addressing all issues of common interest, both political and economic," according to the same source.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two parties exchanged views on the draft Charter for the Mediterranean, which is currently the subject of consultations between the EU and the countries of the southern shore.
At the end of the telephone conversation, "the two parties agreed to continue and intensify efforts aimed at conferring the required balance to the economic partnership between Algeria and the EU, so as to preserve the interests of both parties and contribute to strengthening peace, security and sustainable development in the Euro-Mediterranean area," the statement concluded.
