The extraordinary session, convened by the brotherly country of Palestine, was attended by OIC Secretary General Hussein Ibrahim Taha and many foreign ministers of the organization's member states.
This session "examined the latest developments in the incessant Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the context of the serious and unprecedented developments facing the Palestinian cause, and was an opportune opportunity to endorse the reintegration of the Syrian Arab Republic into the OIC," the statement said.
In his speech, Mr. Chaib called for "a unified Islamic position that categorically rejects calls to deport the Palestinian people," and for the mobilization of international support necessary for their continued presence on their land," the same source added.
The Secretary of State reaffirmed "Algeria's commitment, under the judicious leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to spare no effort to defend the Palestinian cause", emphasizing "the incessant diplomatic efforts deployed by our country in support of this legitimate cause, particularly since its accession to the status of non-permanent member within the UN Security Council".
He also called for "pressure by all possible means, with a view to implementing all the clauses of the ceasefire agreement to put an end to the shedding of Palestinian blood in the Strip and to ensure the withdrawal of the occupier from all the territories of the Gaza Strip", urging, "the combination and unification of efforts at the Arab and Islamic levels, with a view to accelerating the reconstruction of Gaza and blocking the road to calls aimed at emptying the Strip of its inhabitants".
In the same context, Mr. Chaib called for "launching a genuine political process that will lead to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, within the framework of the two-state solution, being the basis of international legality."
At the end of his speech, Mr. Chaib welcomed the return of the Syrian Arab Republic, a brother country, to the OIC, calling for "closing ranks in order to promote this organization," read the ministry's press release.
The decision that sanctioned the work of this extraordinary session, invited all OIC member states to support the tangible and sustained efforts made by Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, in support of Islamic causes, in general, and the Palestinian cause, in particular," concluded the same source.
