After the publication of several press articles and the multiplication of media outlets and in order to avoid any confusion left by certain declarations, it should be recalled that as part of the efforts aimed at addressing the concerns of members of the national community in abroad and in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad stressed that the payment of the costs of repatriation to Algeria of mortal remains of deceased Algerians abroad, is insured by the Algerian State, under the provisions of article 72 of the finance law, for the year 2023.
This article amended article 165 of the complementary finance law of 2021, which limited support to the sole category of "needy or whose families justify the insufficiency of the means of financing allowing repatriation support" .
Indeed, the implementation of this system has been underway since 2023, the date of entry into force of the 2023 finance law. Thus, resident or non-resident Algerian nationals, including those in an irregular situation, who died outside the national territory, are concerned by the payment of the costs of repatriation of their remains regardless of their financial situation.
The payment covers the costs of land transport in the country of death, air transport to Algeria as well as the costs of preliminary acts (mortuary toilet, placing in a coffin, possible administrative costs and taxes).
