The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and the reading, by the President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Omar Belhadj, of the Court's statement relating to the final results of the presidential election won by Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune with a rate of 84.30% of the votes cast.
The President of the Republic took the oath after the text of the oath was read by the First President of the Supreme Court, Mr. Tahar Mamouni. With his right hand on the Holy Quran, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune repeated the passages of the text after Mr. Mamouni.
In accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic "takes the oath before the people in the presence of all the high authorities of the Nation, within the week following his election. He takes office immediately after taking the oath."
The terms of the oath provided for by the Constitution
Article 90 of the Constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic shall take an oath in the following terms: "Faithful to the supreme sacrifices and sacred memory of our martyrs, as well as to the ideals of the eternal November Revolution, I swear by Almighty Allah to respect and glorify the Islamic religion, to defend the Constitution, to ensure the continuity of the State, to bring together the conditions necessary for the normal functioning of institutions and constitutional order, to work to strengthen the democratic process, to respect the free choice of the people, as well as the institutions and laws of the Republic, to preserve the integrity of the national territory, the unity of the people and the Nation, to protect the freedoms and fundamental rights of man and citizen, to work tirelessly for the development and prosperity of the people and to work, with all my strength, to achieve the great ideals of justice, freedom and peace in the world. Allah is witness to this."
