It is noteworthy that the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project connects the three countries with a total length of 4,128 km, including 1,037 km within Nigerian territory, 841 km in Niger, and 2,310 km in Algeria, where it will connect the gas fields in Nigeria (starting from Warri on the Niger River) to the Algerian network, so that the gas can be marketed. The project will benefit from the capabilities available in Algeria in terms of infrastructure, especially the transportation network, liquefied natural gas complexes, and petrochemical facilities, as well as the geographical location close to gas markets.
In February 2022, Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger confirmed their commitment to completing this strategic project, as the ministers in charge of the energy sector in the three countries agreed, in Niamey, to develop a work road map to implement the project.
After a series of meetings, in Algiers in July 2022, a memorandum of understanding was signed to implement the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project, where the three parties confirmed their intention to send studies and various programs under this framework.
