A strategic agenda to deepen cooperation in various fields
The second day of the official visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Germany, was crowned by the adoption of a strategic partnership agenda, reflecting
the depth of historical ties and the common will of the two countries to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields.
On this occasion, the two countries adopted a joint declaration on a strategic agenda for bilateral partnership, stressing the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation in the face of global challenges, while continuing to strengthen cooperation in the political, diplomatic, economic, trade and energy fields.
Several agreements were also signed between Algerian and German companies. Both parties noted with satisfaction the upward trend in bilateral trade,
expressing their desire to promote relations in the areas of trade and investment for the benefit of their respective economies.
In this regard, the strategic importance of the long-term bilateral energy partnership was highlighted, as was cooperation for development in the energy sector.
Emphasis was also placed on the strategic importance of the "Southern Hydrogen Corridor" project, classified as a "Global Gateway" and "European Energy Route" project.
The two countries agreed to reactivate the Algerian-German Joint Economic Commission and to create a bilateral Business Council, which will constitute a platform for dialogue and networking between the
business communities of Algeria and Germany, in parallel with the missions and activities coordinated by the Algerian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Algeria), the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA) and the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI).
Furthermore, both parties agreed to explore opportunities for joint research projects, as well as cooperation in the field of emerging technologies and innovation ecosystems.
They also welcomed the ongoing dialogue on regional and international security issues, including cooperation on defence, counter-terrorism, cybersecurity and counter-disinformation, while praising the quality of cooperation in the areas of migration, repatriation, readmission and reintegration.
In the same context, the two countries signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to cooperate on reducing methane emissions in the hydrocarbon sector (oil and gas).
During this visit, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, held a private meeting with his German counterpart, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who gave him an official welcome at the Villa Borsig in Berlin. These talks were subsequently expanded to include members of the delegations from both countries.
The President of the Republic also held extensive talks with the German Chancellor, Mr. Friedrich Merz.
During a joint press conference with the German Chancellor, the President of the Republic indicated that Algerian-German relations, established in the aftermath of independence in 1962, were "solid and excellent, never having been marred by any dispute, and are getting better and better," adding that relations with Germany were among "the best cooperative relations that Algeria currently maintains."
He stressed that Algeria remains a reliable gas supplier for Europe and highlighted Germany's interest in supplying Algerian gas.
He specified that his official visit "aims to strengthen certain aspects of economic, security and political relations with friendly Germany, which will soon see the launch of a new corridor for hydrogen, potentially followed by other renewable energies such as electricity".
For his part, the German Chancellor emphasized his country's interest in developing its economic relations with Algeria, as well as its desire to open a new chapter in this area.
After praising the historical relations between the two countries and their common interest in the stability of the region, he highlighted the desire of both countries to strengthen bilateral trade and cooperation in the fields of energy and raw materials.
It is worth recalling that the President of the Republic met on Wednesday evening in Berlin with members of the national community established in Germany, during which he listened to their concerns and aspirations, answering all of their questions.
On this occasion, he instructed the government to address the concerns of community members and support them in their projects.
On the sidelines of this meeting, representatives of the national community living in Germany praised "the great development" achieved by Algeria under the enlightened leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which has enabled the realization of large-scale strategic projects and contributed to "Algeria's strong return to the international stage and the strengthening of its relations with several brotherly and friendly countries, including the Federal Republic of Germany".
