The declaration was signed by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab and the Vice-Chancellor of Germany and Federal Minister of Economy and Climate, Mr. Robert Habeck, on the sidelines of a round table organized with the participation of representatives of Algerian and German companies operating in the energy sector, representatives of the embassies of Tunisia, Italy and Austria as well as the European Union (EU) in Algeria, with a view to debating cooperation issues of common interest, such as renewable energies, the development of hydrogen and the Southern Corridor H2 project.
The declaration signed by the two ministries plans to strengthen joint cooperation in the field of feasibility studies, production, processing, employment, transportation, storage and marketing of hydrogen, as well as its derivatives produced from renewable energies, beneficial to both countries, especially since the two parties plan to create an Algerian-German Task Force on hydrogen + within the framework of the energy partnership +, with a view to contributing to the creation of economic opportunities, while promoting the achievement of the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
The signing of the declaration was followed by a high-level exchange between ministers and senior officials of the two ministries, as well as relevant experts on the potentials and challenges of developing the new and renewable energy value chain, notably the development of hydrogen.
Also invited were representatives of the EU and the European consortium which together support the creation of a "Southern H2 Corridor", a project which provides for the adaptation and extension of the gas pipeline corridor to transport source hydrogen renewable, from Algeria to southern Germany.
Algeria intends to become a major producer of hydrogen and export 10% of the EU's needs by 2040.
The "H2 southern corridor", which will contribute to the security of energy supply and the diversification of energy imports in Europe, constitutes an important element for the export of green energy for Algeria.
