Algeria welcomes the conclusions of the joint EAC-SADC summit on the crisis in the DRC

ALGIERS- Algeria welcomed the conclusions of the Joint Summit of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on the crisis in the DR Congo, said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs on Sunday.

"Algeria welcomes the conclusions of the Joint Summit of the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community on the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo," the statement read.

"It endorses the unanimous call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and for an end to military hostilities in the East of the DRC," added the same source.

She welcomes, in particular, "the unification of the Nairobi and Luanda processes, which now allows for a global, coherent and integrated treatment of the conflict in the DRC".    

Furthermore, "Algeria hopes that the voice of wisdom that emerged from this Joint Summit and the sense of responsibility that characterized its work will finally allow the launch of a sincere and credible dialogue within the framework of the new unified Nairobi/Luanda process with a view to restoring peace, security and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Great Lakes region as a whole."

"Together with other African representatives within the Security Council, within the framework of the A3+, Algeria stands ready to extend, accompany and strengthen the support of the international community for this unified process aimed at a peaceful, just and lasting settlement of the conflict in the DRC," the statement concluded.
