Attaf affirms from Tunis that Algerian-Tunisian relations are living "their best era"
TUNIS - Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, said Wednesday in Tunis that Algerian-Tunisian relations are experiencing "their finest period," thanks to the constant and special attention paid to them by the two leaders of the two countries, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Tunisian counterpart, Kais Saied.

In a statement following the audience granted to him by President Kais Saied, Mr. Attaf affirmed that his official visit to Tunisia, as special envoy of the President of the Republic, "is part of the desire to consolidate the traditions of bilateral consultation and coordination, which have always united the two leaders of our two brotherly countries."

"I sincerely believe that this permanent communication represents the privileged nature of Algerian-Tunisian relations, relations that bind together a single people of the two countries, as previously affirmed by President Kais Saied," he said.

"I am delighted to have discussed today with President Kaïs Saïed the dynamic characterizing these relations in all areas. Algerian-Tunisian relations are currently experiencing their finest period, thanks to the constant and special attention paid to them by the two leaders of our two brotherly countries," Mr. Attaf said.

The minister reported the holding of a working session with his counterpart, Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, "to discuss all issues relating to bilateral cooperation and examine ways to implement the high instructions relating to the strengthening of Algerian-Tunisian relations and the achievement of more achievements in the best interests of our two brotherly peoples."

"Notwithstanding Algerian-Tunisian relations, the situation at the regional, continental and international levels does not bode well," the minister lamented, adding: "the system of contemporary international relations, in its political and economic aspects, is experiencing a worrying disintegration, in the face of the growing disregard for international rules and laws, the neutralization of the role of international organizations including the United Nations and the blows suffered by multilateralism in the face of the resurgence of unilateralism, the law of the strongest and lawlessness."

"Faced with these developments, the Middle East, like our African continent, has been and remains the hardest-hit region. Moreover, the Palestinian cause is currently going through a critical period in its history and is facing an existential challenge par excellence, where we are witnessing attempts to liquidate this cause instead of seeking ways to resolve it in accordance with international legality," the minister stressed.

Regarding the situation on the African continent, Mr. Attaf stressed that this region "is also in the grip of a worrying regression in all respects, particularly in terms of security, politics and the economy.

It is enough to recall the worrying number of hotbeds of conflict, crises and wars that are shaking every nook and cranny of the continent, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region."

In light of these circumstances, Algerian-Tunisian coordination is an absolute necessity, the minister maintained, affirming that this coordination has never been interrupted with our Tunisian brothers, as evidenced by "the convergence of our positions both with regard to the Palestinian cause and the developments of the situation in our regional neighborhood and in the areas of our common belonging."
